Make Your Own: Oat Milk
Oats are superfood. Like, seriously! They are one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat. They contain 13 important minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants including Iron, Magnesium and Vitamin B6! It’s no wonder many of you are splashing out the oat milk into your coffees and over cereals.
In comparison to other plant-based milks, oat milk also has the lowest environmental impact as the grain requires very little water and can be grown in various parts of the world, including Europe, which means low/no air miles! BUT, even better, you can make your own and get rid of the tetra packs and their plastic lids altogether. You also get shed loads more for your money! Follow our quick guide below to make your own.
What you need…
- 1 cup of oats (you can pick these up in cardboard boxes or paper-bags to avoid plastic)
- 1 tsp vegan/nectar agave
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 pitted dates
- Large bowl
- Muslin cloth/nut bag
Tada! Your oat milk is ready! How easy was that? We recommend pouring your hard work into a glass bottle (these were from Ikea) and pop in the fridge for extra freshness! Loaded with healthy goodness, and with no waste (as you can keep back the oat pulp for adding to cookies and tray bakes), you can drink to your heart’s desire without feeling a single ounce of guilt! Enjoy!
