Make Your Own: Bird Feeder

Make Your Own: Bird Feeder

This super-easy two-ingredient bird feeder is a simple way to give your birds a helping hand. Children will love the cool sensation of the seeds and stickiness of the oil. You’ll feel great once your feathered friends pay a visit.

What you need:

  • Bird seeds
  • Coconut oil (we used Coconut Merchant)
  • Feeder. This could be either an old coconut shell, pinecone or peeled apple.

What to do:

Step 1: Mix your seeds and coconut oil together. The oil acts as a glue, holding the seeds into place. If the seeds keep falling out, add more oil. Children really enjoy doing this with their hands to feel the stickiness and coolness of the seeds.

Step 2: Spoon your bird mixture into or around your chosen feeder. Use the back of a spoon to gently compress everything into place.

Step 3: Place your feeder in the fridge and chill for around 30-90 minutes. This will help the coconut oil set and hold everything into place.

Step 4: Hang up your feeder, preferably in a safe place from cats. Watch and enjoy your feathered visitors.
