Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we get asked frequently, but if you have a new question then please get in touch.

  1. Where did the name KiteNest come from?

The name KiteNest reflects our core brand belief of creating high quality 100% natural products, all crafted and nurtured in the rural county of Lincolnshire. We manufacture our products in KN HQ, the laboratory we constructed in early 2016. This was always the plan and much like a bird creating a nest it has been an exciting journey as we put it all together piece by piece.

Alongside our passion for natural cosmetics we are also strong supporters of cruelty-free and eco-friendly cosmetics. The reintroduction of the Red Kite is the perfect symbol of this, and a fantastic success story for the East Midlands. Thanks to the collaboration of countless organisations and individuals the Kite’s distinctive silhouette can once again be seen across the skies of Lincolnshire, proving that when you have the right ideas and support great work can be achieved together.

  2. How do I care for my KiteNest Products?

All KiteNest products are 100% natural and as such may not react like the products you’ve used before. We recommend that you keep our products out of direct sunlight and do not expose them to extreme temperatures (and most importantly never feed them after midnight!)

Please see your individual purchase for best before details.

  3. How do I recycle KiteNest Packaging?

We’re glad you’ve asked! We’d love it if you’d look at recycling all of our KiteNest packaging and to help you do this we’ve created a series of blog posts to help you. Take a look at our narrated recycling suggestions which have been beautifully sketched by Lincolnshire artist Sian Bristow.

All our packaging is 100% recyclable, including any stickers and labels.

Did you know that you can also recycle the Vermiculite which we use to cushion products in transit? Our Vermiculite is light and clean to handle, has a high insulation value, acoustic-insulating properties, can be used with potted plants, in cement and will absorb and hold a wide range of liquids.

  4. How are KiteNest products made?

KiteNest products are made small batch by Chris and Markus in their Lincoln workshop. We use the finest natural ingredients without the addition of any nasties, no parabens and our products are never tested on animals.

We are passionate about creating high quality natural products which never compromise on design or performance, hence our moto - Natural Creations Without Compromise.

  5. Why did you start KiteNest?

Markus – “Chris and I started KiteNest after a conversation about what are all the ingredients in commercial hair wax. We’d stayed in touch since working together and would regularly have conversations about how we would improve things, or do them differently. This conversations usually took place on a hike or at a gig.

After a bit of research, some ‘kitchen cosmetic creations’ and because of a growing passion for natural products we decided to share our creations with others. The feedback was really good and before long we’d created KiteNest.”

  6. Where is Lincolnshire?

Lincolnshire is located in the East Midlands and is the second largest of the English ceremonial counties. You can find it between the Humber and the Wash, somewhere to the right of Robin Hood country (who famously wore Lincoln Green) and to the left of the sea.

Lincolnshire is famous for it’s sausages, plumb bread, vegetables and being the birth place of Sir Isaac Newton and Jim Broadbent.

  7. I really want to visit Lincolnshire, what should I go and see?

There is so much to see and do in Lincolnshire and we’d especially recommend the Cathedral in Lincoln, the various stately homes and the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds but there is also so much more. Take a look at the Visit Lincoln & Visit Lincolnshire websites.

  8. Who designed your logo & packaging?

Our logo and packaging were designed by Lincoln based Graphic Designer Laura Berry. You can find more of Laura’s fantastic work on her website.

  9. What have you done to ensure all KiteNest products are safe to use?

Our manufacturing process ensures that our full range of cosmetic products meet with the current technical and legal requirements; including compliance with European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. Our full range of cosmetics have also undergone formal safety assessments conducted by a qualified assessor.. Our products are regularly tested to check quality and consistency as well as recorded by batch so that any anomalies, should they arise, can be identified and recalled.

  10. I have sensitive skin, are KiteNest products safe for me to use?

It’s always difficult to say if a product is right for you but our products are free from harsh chemicals and information on all our ingredients can be found on our website and packaging. When trying a new product its recommended that after checking the ingredients that you try a small amount of the product on an inconspicuous are like you wrist 24 hours before deciding if the product is right to you.

Our website was put together by Rick. He likes to make clean and simple websites that do what they’re supposed to. Find out more on his website.

  12. I’m pregnant should I be careful when using products which contain essential oils?

Although there is no concrete or far reaching evidence to suggest that essential oils can be bad for you and your baby during pregnancy it is always a good idea to consult with a medical professional before using new products.

  13. Are natural products better for me?

We like to think so! Our natural products are hyper-allergenic and fully tested to ensure they are safe for your skin. There are many reasons you may wish to choose natural products but most importantly you should choose what’s right for you and your body.

There is growing noise around the carcinogenic effects of petroleum jelly and the harm of micro-beads to the world’s oceans. We really think it’s time that everyone started to question what their cosmetics contained and the effects to their health and the world around them.

KiteNest products are not just natural but are also free from harsh chemicals, parabens and are never tested on animals.
